Transmit’s Transfer Queue is the place to check for details on all your file transfers. Whether you’re uploading a folder with hundreds of small files, downloading one big .zip
archive, or just transferring a few images to a backup server, you’ll find information on the status and progress of those transfers in the Queue.
Where to Find the Transfer Queue
When a file is transferring, look for a small progress indicator in the bottom right of the Transmit window. This can give you a pretty good idea of how much is left to transfer, but it doesn’t go into much detail.
For a detailed view, click the triangle icon in the bottom left of the Transmit window to reveal the Transfer Queue.
In the Transfer Queue window you’ll see a list of transfers. Some may have already completed, some may be in progress, and some may be waiting to start. On the items in progress you’ll see the current rate of transfer, the amount transferred, and the estimated time to finish that transfer.
Click the x button to the right of an item in the queue to cancel it. For items waiting to start transferring, just click the colored arrow to start the transfer immediately.
How Many Transfers At Once?
Transmit will use the setting in the Transfers pane of the Settings to determine how many items in the transfer queue will be active at any given time. Your server may impose restrictions on the number of simultaneous connections that can be used.
Note that simultaneous transfers are counted by top-level items in the transfer queue, not sub-level items.
For example, if you’ve set Transmit to transfer up to five items at once, and you upload five files, those items will all start uploading right away. On the other hand, if you start uploading a folder containing those same five files, the Transfer Queue treats this folder as a single item in the queue, and the files will upload one at a time, one after another.
Pausing The Queue
On the right of the toolbar in the Transfer Queue window you’ll find a Pause button. This pause button acts on the queue as a whole, and not on individual transfers. So if you have 10 items in the transfer queue, and three are currently active, when you hit the Pause button, Transmit will wait for those 3 active transfers to finish, and pause the rest of the items in the queue. To put it another way: the pause button pauses the queue, not the transfers. Current transfers are allowed to finish, but queued items stay queued until you un-pause.
